Choose the right microphone

A stable mic choice fixes most early accuracy and “no input” problems.

Updated Mar 19, 2026

Start simple

The built-in Mac microphone is often the best first choice.

Use one main mic before testing extra gear.

In Amnis

  • Open Settings and choose the input you want.
  • Speak at a normal distance.
  • Watch for live activity before testing a full dictation.

If Amnis hears nothing

  • Check the macOS microphone permission.
  • Make sure the device is not muted.
  • Switch to another input to confirm whether the issue is device-specific.
