Frequently asked questions
What is a good Wispr Flow alternative?
Amnis, if you want your words kept private. It never trains AI on your dictations, works offline on Mac, and adds bold and lists in Slack, Teams and Outlook. It runs on Mac and Windows, with a free plan.
Does Wispr Flow use my dictations to train its models?
By default, yes. Its help center says model improvement and cloud storage of your dictations are on until you turn them off in Settings, under Data and Privacy. Amnis never trains on your words, so there is nothing to turn off.
Does Wispr Flow work offline?
No. Wispr Flow says transcription always happens in the cloud. Amnis dictates with no connection on Apple silicon Macs. On Windows it needs the internet.
Is Amnis cheaper than Wispr Flow?
Yes. Amnis Pro is $12 a month, or $119.40 a year, before tax. Wispr Flow Pro is $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly. On Mac, Amnis Free dictation is unlimited, while Wispr Flow’s free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on desktop.
Is Wispr Flow better than Amnis at anything?
Yes, for teams. Wispr Flow offers a shared team workspace, with a shared dictionary and snippets. Amnis has no team sharing. If you dictate for yourself and want your words kept private, Amnis is the better fit.
Can Amnis bold text in Slack?
Yes. Amnis adds bold and lists in Slack, Teams and Outlook on Mac and Windows, and in WhatsApp, Apple Mail, Notes and Notion on Mac.
I also write in French or Japanese. Does Amnis keep up?
Yes. Amnis was conceived by a native multilingual speaker of French, English and Japanese, and each writing style has instructions written in all three. On FLEURS, Amnis Cloud makes 2.8% errors in French and 1.8% in Japanese.
